About

What is Murderville?

Murderville is a community centered around a grotesquely comedic, dark-humor collectible card game where players can design and submit their own attack, defense, and specialty cards for collecting, trading, and public play. Go to the Create a Card page to submit your card ideas.

Murderville is different because all cards are discontinued after a single production run. New card designs are released monthly, designed by Murderville and the Murvillian (Murderville collectors and players) community. Due to their limited run, all cards continue to increase in value and collectability. These cards can be cashed in and traded at our annual events. See current values on our Card Exchange page.

We believe in using violence to fight violence. So we also use our game to help abuse victims and rebuild lives. All defense and specialty card sales support causes like abuse, homelessness, and human trafficking, so every time you purchase a mixed pack or individual card, exactly 33% of those sales go to those causes. See our Do Some Good page to see the full list.

The gameplay is relatively simple.

After the cards are dealt, each player strategizes the best way to use their armory (the cards they have in hand) to out-murder or out-survive their opponents. The card dealer starts as the first challenger and chooses a target to go again (which is not too difficult if only 2 people are playing.) The challenger can then throw a card down or demand that the target throw down a card. The player with the higher card level wins that round. If the card levels are even, they both throw again until one player is overpowered (out-murdered) by the other player or a player escapes using a defense or specialty card. The last player still holding a card wins the game.

Card Power levels:
  • Attack cards rank: 1 to 5
  • Defense cards rank: 6
  • Specialty cards rank: 7 – 11
  • Celebrity cards rank: 8 to 10
  • Ethereal Vengeance cards rank: 12
  • The Coin of Fate (Beyond all levels)

See the Game Play section for the full rules, options, and alternative ways to play.

Getting Started

To get started, you need a starter set. A basic Murderville starter set comes with level 1 – 5 offensive attack cards, some level 6 defense cards, the coin of fate, and a rule book. The Premium set comes with additional level 1 – 5 offensive attack cards, some level 6 defense cards, specialty cards, the coin of fate, and an expanded rule book that includes a glossary, as well as team and tournament play.

Renovations

Because all Murderville cards have a limited production run that are produced in a limited number, then discontinued, Murderville game sets are updated generationally with new card sets. Each updated starter set that comes with a new mix of cards is known as a renovation. This is to keep track of what cards originally came with each game generation. The discontinued cards increase in value and become more collectible over time.

Strategy, Team Play, and Tournaments

The complexity of Murderville lives in using strategy with the various game card levels. Players often use techniques such as targeting, leveraging marks, bluffing, inference, counting, toggling, stacking, and manipulation to win. Buying additional cards allows you to create a custom collection which gives you the advantage of having unknown cards in your armory and throwing off potential strategies when your deck is used.

Collecting, Trading, and Expanding

There are 4 main components to Murderville.

  1. Gameplay
  2.  Collecting
  3.  Trading
  4.  Creating

Starting with the Starter Set is just the start! Stock up your inventory by buying new individual cards, mixed 3-packs, mixed 6-packs, or subscribe to get new card packs every month. Use your custom arsenal to expand your gameplay and increase your hilarious card collection.

Status Aedificii

Murderville is all about status. Status is gained by creating cards, collecting cards, collecting coins, and winning tournaments. Each of those (which is tracked and monitored by the Murderville HOA) helps you to rank higher in the Murderville community. The higher you rank, the more power, influence, and benefits you are granted by the Murderville society. Benefits inclusive of glorification, power, and riches.

Teams and Tournaments

Murderville allows for lopsided team play; which means that teams do not have to consist of an even amount on each side. Team play is enhanced by special team play cards that allow team members to share cards, switch cards, switch players, and intervene to save each other.

Tournaments (which we hope to have and hold annually in Las Vegas) will you to compete in both individual and team play using specially crafted tournament armory decks. Yes, you can win the prizes for both in a single tournament.
